There are many reasons to choose Russian as your
second language.
First of all, Russian is the most widely spoken language of Eurasia.
It is the official language of Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan,
Kyrgyzstan, Crimea, Abkhazia, Kabardino-Balkaria. Russian is also
spoken in Mongolia, Southeast Asia and Israel. About 260 million
people speak Russian, and out of them 110 million people use it as a
second language.
If you live in America, you do not have to fly across the ocean in
order to speak Russian. Large Russian-speaking communities exist in
the U.S. and Canada, especially in large cities like New York City,
Los Angeles, San Francisco, Toronto, Miami, Chicago. However, only a
quarter of these people are ethnic Russians.
Secondly, Russian is the official language of the United Nations.
This organization conducts business in six official languages:
Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Spanish and Russian.
Thirdly, Russian culture and literature is one of the world
treasures. Europe and America have always appreciated Russian music,
ballet, theatre, literature and art. Learning the Russian language
gives you a great opportunity to discover this magnificent and
mysterious culture.
